Vanda Albota
Folkwang University of Arts
Vanda Albota was born in Romania and received her first musical education in her home country. By virtue of the scholarships awarded by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the DAAD, she continued her studies in Weimar with Prof. Gerlinde Otto and graduated with the Konzertexamen in piano. This was followed by the study of historical keyboard instruments in Berlin (Prof. Mitzi Meyerson), which she also completed with the Konzertexamen.
As a soloist, Vanda Albota has played with orchestras in her home country and in Berlin, Leipzig, Zwickau, Greiz, Bad Hersfeld, Weimar and Jena. Numerous radio and television recordings document the pianist's performances (at MDR Leipzig, BBC London, Radio Romania Cultural). The solo activity is augmented by chamber music and vocal accompaniment. Vanda Albota is a sought-after piano partner and accompanist in master classes and competitions (such as Forum Artium, Weimar Master Classes, Allegro Vivo, Leipzig International Bach Competition, Ferdinand Neess International Flute Competition, Dutch International Flute Competition).
Her performances were rewarded at numerous international competitions. In 2000 she won the third prize at the "Nueva Acropolis" in Madrid and first prize at the "Carl Filtsch" in Sibiu/Hermannstadt-Romania. In 2002 at the "Jeunesses Musicales" in Bucharest, she won third prize, in 2004 at the "AMA Calabria" in Lamezia Terme the third prize and in 2006 the first prize at the international "Ella Phillipp" competition for piano and orchestra.
Vanda Albota is also intensively involved in performance practice on historical keyboard instruments. As a result of her passion, she gave concerts in Berlin (also in the Philharmonie as a soloist with the German Chamber Orchestra), Bergheim near Cologne (Dohr Collection), Weimar (Beetz Collection), Bad Krozingen (Neumeyer- Junghanns-Tracey Collection).
From 2004 to 2012 she was hired as a lecturer for collaborative piano by the "Franz Liszt" Academy of Music in Weimar, and from 2012 to 2014 also by the Berlin University of Arts. In 2016, Vanda Albota achieved tenure at Folkwang University of Arts in Essen as collaborative pianist in the woodwind department.
